Email Defer – A Quick Visual Tip

How many times have you realized just seconds after clicking send on an email that you forgot to include the attachment you referred to in the note?  If you use Microsoft Outlook for work, there is a way to add a one-minute delay in sending your emails which offers you the chance to edit or delete them prior to them being released to the world.  This might sound silly but it has saved me hundreds of times over the past few years.  For me it is as necessary as spell check.

Check out a quick 90 second visual demonstration on how to configure outlook to have this one-minute delay.

Does anyone have any other good email tips to share with the group?  Is there something in outlook you can’t figure out how to do and would like me to visually demonstrate a solution?

  1. Ben says:

Brad, I am more interested in your screen capture tool than this excuse for an Outlook rule. Let me tell you why:

    1. I guess if you are the type of person that makes mistakes this is for you, then again if you made the mistake the first time you’ll probably also overlook the fact you forgot an attachment or you CC’ed the CEO on accident.

    2. Related to #1, most people do not realize they forgot the attachment until some smart a…person replies ‘I DIDN’T GET ANY ATTACHMENT?!?’

    3. You don’t really need a defer rule because, chances are, your exchange server goes down every few minutes, leaving your emails stuck in your outbox where you can retrieve them.
