The most interesting, intelligent, and successful people I have met are all avid readers. I’m a big believer in the benefits of reading and I try to set aside at least thirty minutes every day for it. I currently read these publications and an additional book or so a month.

Donating saves you tax money…

Maybe. Often times companies seeking donations will market the idea that the donation is tax refundable or that you can “write it off.” But, what does this mean?

The maybe is due to a tax component called standard deduction. A standard deduction is a dollar amount that reduces the amount of taxable income you have. With everyone trying to cut down on spending during these tough times - I recommend taking a look at your monthly discretionary services.

A decent amount of our yearly spending is spent on monthly subscriptions to various services. Cell Phone Plans, Gym Memberships, Netflix, Parking Spots, Cable, Internet, Gamefly, Car Payments, Music Plans, the list goes on. Carbon Copy

What does the word Carbon Copy mean to you? Most of us immediately think of ‘CC’ - as in CC’ing someone on an email - bingo. So why is this so hard to remember this when you actually respond to an email?

Take a look at three graphs of the NASDAQ and DJIA which show their performance over the previous 1, 5, and 10 years.

(Dow had 35% Loss)

(Dow had 4.5% Annualized Loss)

10yr
(Dow had 1.4% Annualized Loss)

The performance of the stock market over the last 10 years has been awful. However, there is no reason to adjust your investment plans or think that the stock market will continue this dismal performance. Maintain focus on the long term and don’t let the static along…
